Claire was born in 1969, and grew up in the Essex countryside where she developed a natural affinity and interest in the animals she saw around her. Her passion for wildlife and her creative instincts were fused when she enrolled in Art College. It was during her training at Winchester, where she was able to experiment with steel, clay, and plaster in an abstract way, which sharpened her sense of line, shape and form giving her sculptures a new sense of vitality.
Claire's bronzes are built from the inside out by using unconventional materials such as, wire, basketry, foam, string, wood and corrugated packing, creating an archtectural form. This enables her to assemble and re-assemble, construct and re-construct, allowing the viewer insight into the internal space and sensation of the subject. Part of Clarie's process is to make an intense study of her subject by producing multiple drawings of the creature. Thie ontinual re-examination, enables her to capture the texture, movement and energy which uniquely transform the spirit of her subject.
