Lois Sykes finds inspiration for her enchanting animal portraits in creatures of every size - from mice to horses.

Lois studied painting at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. It was a traditional Art College founded at the same time as the Royal Academy and run along the same lines. After marrying an Englishman she moved to a cottage in the English countryside where she adopted a number of animals - horses, chickens, ducks, cats and more - from which she derives her subject matter. 'Humour is always part of my work. I love those unexpected moments in an animal's life, those moments that make us laugh and show the true personality of our animals.'

Lois paints in oils in a free and fluid semi-abstract style, the result of her Parisian experience fusing with classical training.
