Lydia Segrave was born in London. After studying at Maidstone College of Art she worked in advertising and publishing before taking up sculpture in 1993. Her father was Irish and her mother Scottish: this has given her an interest in Celtic imagery which features in some her sculpture. Her work is wide-ranging and imaginative; it seeks to capture emotions or attitudes rather than represent objects precisely. Yet it is figurative in that there is always some reference to reality; occasionally it verges on the surreal. She models in molten wax which is then cast in limited bronze editions.
