I am interested in figurative works and paint mainly from life studies. I paint as an exploration of what I see in front of me and by recreating the spirit of the model and the pose.
I have developed an individual approach to figurative painting and I am committed to exploring the experimental potential embedded within traditional representation. I prefer to draw or paint from life choosing a reductive process to structure and abstract images such that information is lost in translation; estranged from their original context or meaning and deliberately falling short of figurative resolve and cohesion. In many ways, the images can appear more like elements in a still life.
My subject matter is chosen from figures, portraits, interiors and the occasional architectural configuration. My exploration in these various genres, scales, and tonalities is based largely on my interest in the history of European art.
