NEWSLETTER - 15th February 2021 The Venus of Willendorf is believed to be the earliest depiction of the female nude (circa 30,000 - 25,000 BC). Standing a little over 11cm tall, and made of oolitic limestone (small spheres called ooiliths are stuck together by lime mud) the figurine is one of the smallest nudes in existence. The artists featured below have used various media: gouache, sodalite, charcoal, and stainless steel, to produce their ideal female nude.
