Gustave Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter and a prominent member of the Vienna Secession movement. His 'Golden Phase' is thought to have been influenced by his travels to Venice and Ravenna where he saw many Byzantine mosaics. His cat was called Katze.
