Cole Porter (1891-1964) was an American composer and songwriter. Born into a wealthy family, and ignoring his grandfather’s wishes, he took up music as a profession - later becoming a successful Broadway musical composer (unusually writing his own lyrics as well as the music). He is perhaps best known for his musical, ‘Kiss me Kate’.
