Elizabeth David CBE (1913-1992) was a British cookery writer and was one of the first cooks to acknowledge seasonal, local produce. In 1949 she started writing a cookery column for Harpers Bazaar and shortly afterwards she published her first collection of recipes. At her funeral, amongst the flowers, there was a loaf of bread and a bunch of herbs tied up in brown paper.
