Jane Martin

Jane studied Graphic Design and went on to work as a freelance illustrator. Whilst studying for an MA at the Royal College of Art, she won a travel Scholarship to Kenya to draw animals in the wild. She had already spent time drawing animals at London Zoo, but wanted to capture them in motion using simple line drawings.

Jane is interested in discovering and interpreting the character in what she sees and ‘getting immersed’ in the process of drawing. Her drawings then become the inspiration for her paintings.

“Drawing has always been my starting point; mainly quick, spontaneous drawings of animals, people, still life and landscapes. When translating drawings to paintings, I love experimenting often using mixed media – working with oils, acrylics, collage and various drawing mediums. Whatever I produce, I always come back to the love of mark making.”

Jane has exhibited at Blackheath Gallery, Art for Youth at the Mall Galleries, Hampshire Artists Co-operative, The Oxmarket – Chichester, Winchester City Space and Stockbridge.
